New Delhi, August 4: As gold prices remain volatile despite trading below their record highs, an increasing number of retail investors are opting for smaller, regular investments through digital platforms such as Paytm Gold instead of making large one-time purchases.

The strategy reflects a growing preference for disciplined investing amid uncertainty in global financial markets, where fluctuations in gold prices continue to challenge investors seeking the right entry point.

Gold Trades Around Rs 1.43 Lakh Per 10 Grams

The price of 24-karat gold is currently hovering around Rs 1.43 lakh per 10 grams in the domestic market following several weeks of range-bound trading.

Although prices remain elevated, they are approximately 20 per cent below the all-time retail high of nearly Rs 1.78 lakh per 10 grams, recorded on January 29, 2026, when global safe-haven demand surged amid heightened economic and geopolitical uncertainty.

What's Driving Gold Price Volatility?

Gold prices have been reacting to a combination of international factors, including:

  • Expectations surrounding future US Federal Reserve interest rate decisions.
  • Strength in the US dollar.
  • Rising global bond yields.
  • Ongoing geopolitical tensions in West Asia.
  • Continued demand for safe-haven assets.

While the US Federal Reserve kept interest rates unchanged at its latest policy meeting, investors remain focused on signals regarding future monetary policy, which could influence bullion prices in the coming months.

The World Gold Council has maintained a cautiously positive outlook for gold, noting that sustained central bank purchases, geopolitical uncertainty and investor demand are expected to support prices over the medium term. However, it has also cautioned that a stronger dollar and higher bond yields may continue to create short-term volatility.

Why Retail Investors Are Choosing Small, Regular Purchases

For many households, predicting the best time to buy gold has become increasingly difficult.

Investing a large amount in one transaction carries the risk of purchasing near a temporary price peak, while delaying an investment could mean missing future gains.

As a result, many investors are adopting a systematic accumulation strategy, making smaller purchases over time. This approach averages the purchase cost across different price levels and reduces the impact of short-term market fluctuations.

Paytm Gold Offers Low-Cost Entry

Paytm Gold enables customers to purchase 24-karat digital gold at live market prices, with investments starting from as little as Rs 51.

The platform also provides Daily Gold SIPs (Systematic Investment Plans), allowing users to automate regular purchases instead of investing a lump sum.

The digital gold is offered in partnership with MMTC-PAMP and is backed by an equivalent quantity of physical gold stored in insured, bank-grade vaults.

Investors have the flexibility to:

  • Buy digital gold in small denominations.
  • Sell holdings at prevailing market prices.
  • Convert digital gold into certified 24-karat physical gold.
  • Avail doorstep delivery across more than 12,000 pin codes in India.

Paytm has also highlighted improved monetisation from its wealth management offerings, including Paytm Gold, in its latest quarterly earnings.

Digital Gold Should Complement a Diversified Portfolio

Financial experts continue to caution that, despite its appeal as a hedge against uncertainty, gold should not form the entirety of an investment portfolio.

Like any market-linked asset, gold prices can decline as well as rise. Investors are generally advised to use gold as a diversification tool alongside equities, fixed-income investments and other financial assets.

With volatility expected to remain elevated through the second half of 2026, many retail investors appear to be prioritising consistency over market timing, steadily building their gold holdings through small, periodic investments rather than attempting to predict short-term price movements.
