Apple has unveiled its new 14-inch MacBook Pro powered by the M6 chip. The launch is aimed squarely at college students, business professionals and creators who want more power for heavy workloads. The most important part of this launch, however, is not the comparison with last year’s model. It is the case it makes to the large base of users still on M1-era MacBooks.
According to Apple, the M6 MacBook Pro delivers up to 30 per cent faster graphics performance and up to 25 per cent faster AI workloads than the previous-generation M5 model. For users upgrading from an M1-powered MacBook Pro, the gains are far larger: up to 11 times faster graphics and up to 13 times faster AI performance.
What the M6 Chip Brings
The M6 features a 12-core CPU, which Apple describes as having the world’s fastest CPU core, alongside a 12-core GPU. The company says the chip improves responsiveness in everyday productivity tasks as well as demanding professional workflows.
AI is at the centre of the design. The M6 adds more Neural Accelerators inside the GPU and a dual 16-core Neural Engine. Apple says this setup supports Apple Intelligence features across apps and macOS, and allows large language models (LLMs) to run locally on the device while protecting user privacy.
The laptop also gets Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. Apple says its faster storage will help with large files, project exports and AI-heavy applications. The device runs macOS 27 and comes in space black and silver.
On-Device AI and the M1 Upgrade Push
Laptop buyers increasingly judge machines on how well they handle AI, not just raw speed. By pushing local LLM processing, Apple is betting that users will prefer running AI tools on their own device rather than sending data to the cloud. For professionals handling sensitive client work, that privacy angle could be a deciding factor.
The M1 comparison is also strategic. M1 MacBooks remain widely used, and many owners have seen little reason to upgrade so far. Gains of over ten times in graphics and AI give that group a clear reason to consider the switch, especially as AI features become more demanding.
“The 14-inch MacBook Pro is the pro laptop of choice for a wide range of users — from college students, to business professionals across every industry, to multidisciplinary creators doing it all on one device,” said Shelly Goldberg, Apple’s vice president of Hardware Engineering.
MacBook Pro M6 Price in India, Pre-Order and Availability Date
Pre-orders for the new 14-inch MacBook Pro begin on October 28, with availability starting November 6. Real-world benchmarks will soon show whether the promised gains hold up outside Apple’s own testing. For M1 owners, though, this may be the upgrade cycle they have been waiting for.
