Why It Matters: Reaching Those Who Find It Hardest to Travel
The user data tells a clear story. Women and older citizens, groups who often face the most difficulty travelling to a clinic because of distance, cost, time or mobility, are among the platform's biggest users. For them, a consultation without a long journey or a day's lost wages makes a real difference.
At its current pace of roughly 2.5–3 lakh consultations a day, eSanjeevani adds around 10 crore consultations a year, suggesting the platform could cross the next major milestones fairly quickly.
Specialists From AIIMS, at Home
eSanjeevani is moving beyond primary care. Patient-to-doctor teleconsultations for select specialities are now available at AIIMS Jodhpur, AIIMS Jammu and AIIMS Patna. Patients can consult specialists from home, reducing the need for long journeys and waits at large hospitals.
For people in western Rajasthan, the availability of specialist consultations from AIIMS Jodhpur could especially reduce the need for long-distance travel for follow-up visits.
AI and Emergency Links
Two upgrades strengthen the platform. An AI-powered Clinical Decision Support System (AI-CDSS) now helps doctors during consultations, aiming to improve the quality and consistency of clinical decisions. eSanjeevani has also been integrated with the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS-112), linking emergency services with remote medical expertise.
How to Use It
- Visit your nearest Ayushman Arogya Mandir for an assisted teleconsultation, or
- Use the eSanjeevani app or official website for an online OPD consultation.
- Consultations are available in English and 14 Indian languages.
Teleconsultation is not a substitute for emergency care; in an emergency, call 112.
The Bottom Line
With 50 crore consultations, eSanjeevani has become one of India's biggest digital health services. Its real impact lies in who it reaches: women, older citizens and families far from big hospitals, now just a phone or a nearby health centre away from a doctor.
