Mumbai: Nine of India’s 10 most-valued companies together added Rs 2.51 lakh crore in market capitalisation last week, supported by a strong rally in the domestic equity markets.
The benchmark indices ended the week firmly higher. The Sensex advanced 2,034.87 points, or 2.67 per cent, while the Nifty climbed 616.15 points, or 2.59 per cent.
Among the top-10 firms by market value, Reliance Industries, Bharti Airtel, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, State Bank of India (SBI), Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Bajaj Finance, Larsen & Toubro (L&T) and Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) recorded gains in their valuations. Hindustan Unilever was the only company in the group to post a decline.
Bajaj Finance registered the sharpest increase, with its market capitalisation rising by Rs 80,345.97 crore to Rs 7,10,817.51 crore. The surge followed the non-banking financial company’s report of a 28 per cent year-on-year rise in consolidated profit after tax for the June quarter of FY27, which pushed its shares more than 8 per cent higher on Friday.
Bharti Airtel’s valuation increased by Rs 44,959.5 crore to Rs 12,30,005.63 crore. TCS added Rs 40,414.03 crore, taking its market capitalisation to Rs 8,55,894.78 crore. Reliance Industries gained Rs 39,447.35 crore, lifting its valuation to Rs 17,69,108.79 crore.
Larsen & Toubro’s market capitalisation rose by Rs 21,096.8 crore to Rs 5,41,844.69 crore, while SBI added Rs 10,845.97 crore to reach Rs 9,47,799.81 crore. HDFC Bank’s valuation increased by Rs 8,164.73 crore to Rs 11,52,150.63 crore.
LIC’s market capitalisation climbed by Rs 4,427.49 crore to Rs 5,37,435.05 crore, and ICICI Bank added Rs 1,660.37 crore, taking its valuation to Rs 10,29,878.30 crore.
In contrast, Hindustan Unilever’s market capitalisation declined by Rs 10,326.46 crore to Rs 4,93,602.13 crore, making it the sole laggard among the country’s 10 most-valued firms during the week.
At the close of the week, Reliance Industries retained its position as India’s most-valued company. It was followed by Bharti Airtel, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, SBI, TCS, Bajaj Finance, Larsen & Toubro, LIC and Hindustan Unilever.
The broad-based rise in valuations among the largest companies reflected improved investor sentiment after a period of volatility, aided by supportive domestic and global cues.
