New Delhi, July 30 — The Centre for Development of Telematics has signed an agreement with the Foundation for Science Innovation and Development and the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, to establish a Centre of Excellence aimed at accelerating indigenous research, innovation, capacity building and commercialisation of advanced communication technologies.

Under the agreement, C-DOT has set up the Centre of Excellence at FSID on the IISc campus. The facility will concentrate on wireless communications, quantum technologies, cybersecurity and artificial-intelligence-driven communication systems. Research priorities include 5G Advanced and 6G technologies, very large-scale MIMO systems, integrated sensing and communication, AI-native networks and devices, and quantum as well as post-quantum communication technologies.

An official statement described the partnership as “another significant milestone in strengthening India’s indigenous telecom innovation ecosystem through collaborative research and technology development.” The Centre is designed to function as a collaborative platform that links academia and industry, generating high-impact research, intellectual property and skilled talent in domains considered critical to India’s digital future.

By combining IISc’s academic strengths with C-DOT’s established expertise in indigenous telecom research and development, the Centre aims to speed the creation of future-ready communication technologies, support deep-tech start-ups and enable continuous knowledge exchange. It will prioritise joint research projects, workshops, training programmes and structured academic-industry engagements.

Dr Rajkumar Upadhyay, CEO of C-DOT, underlined India’s rapid digital and telecom transformation and the strategic necessity of developing trusted indigenous communication technologies. He also highlighted C-DOT’s contributions to next-generation networks and discussed the transformative potential of 6G systems, noting India’s growing role in shaping the global telecommunications landscape.

The new Centre forms part of C-DOT’s broader effort to expand its network of Centres of Excellence and to nurture cutting-edge research through sustained collaboration. Officials indicated that the initiative is expected to strengthen national capabilities in strategic technology areas while creating pathways for commercialisation and start-up support.

The partnership reflects a continued policy emphasis on reducing dependence on imported telecom solutions and building a robust domestic innovation pipeline capable of meeting both present and future connectivity requirements.
