Union Bank of India's Hindi Magazine Takes Top Honour at National Official Language Conference

Mumbai, 19 September 2026: Union Bank of India's Hindi house magazine 'Union Srijan' has won the First Prize under the Rajbhasha Kirti Puraskar Scheme for House Magazines in the 'B' Linguistic Region for financial year 2025-26. The award was given at the 6th All India Official Language Conference, organised by the Department of Official Language, Ministry of Home Affairs, at the CIDCO Exhibition Centre in Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra.

Award Presented by the Union Home Minister

Union Minister of Home Affairs and Cooperation Amit Shah presented the award to Asheesh Pandey, Managing Director and CEO of Union Bank of India. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Ajit Pawar also attended.

Why a House Magazine Matters in Banking

In public sector banks, the house magazine is one of the main internal channels for Hindi. It gives staff a regular platform to write creatively and to engage with the language beyond routine circulars and forms. A first-prize finish in a national scheme suggests that 'Union Srijan' is valued for the quality of its content and its contributors, not just for meeting official language targets.

New Publication Unveiled

During the conference's second session, the Bank released its publication 'कारोबार सर्वोपरि, अनुपालन निरंतर' under the 'Vividh Ayam' book series. Going by its title, which roughly translates to "business comes first, compliance continues", the book addresses the balance between business growth and regulatory discipline. Later, Amit Shah visited the Bank's exhibition stall, where Asheesh Pandey welcomed him and presented him with a copy.

AI Spectacles for Drishti Divyang Beneficiaries

Alongside the award, the Bank used the platform for a social initiative. AI-powered spectacles were given to five Drishti Divyang (visually impaired) beneficiaries by Nityanand Rai and Bandi Sanjay Kumar, both Ministers of State for Home Affairs. The gesture linked language promotion with assistive technology and inclusion, so the Bank's presence at the conference went beyond the award itself.

Bank's Stated Commitment

According to the Bank, the achievement reflects its steadfast commitment to the effective use and promotion of Hindi as the official language in banking operations. Whether the recognition translates into wider Hindi usage in customer-facing services is something the sector will watch, but the award shows the Bank's Hindi efforts have been noticed at the national level.
