New Delhi, July 31 — India’s tourism sector has recorded notable growth, supported by stronger destination infrastructure, the government said on Friday, noting that 75 of the 76 sanctioned Swadesh Darshan projects have been completed.

India received nearly $31.7 billion in international tourism receipts in 2025, according to an official statement outlining initiatives aimed at sustaining momentum. The statement described the country as steadily emerging as a major tourism hub, drawing on its civilisational heritage, natural diversity, spiritual appeal and expanding visitor economy. Improved destination infrastructure, connectivity, digital platforms, travel facilitation and global promotion are helping shift the sector towards higher-value tourism experiences.

Under Swadesh Darshan, 76 projects with an investment of over Rs 5,295.24 crore have been sanctioned across 14 thematic tourist circuits. The programme has developed infrastructure under Buddhist, Coastal, Desert, Eco, Himalayan, North East, Ramayana, Rural, Spiritual, Tribal and other thematic circuits.
