Domestic equity benchmarks slipped into the red in early trade on Tuesday, weighed down by a familiar mix of pressures — Middle East geopolitical tensions, crude oil supply concerns, and mounting caution ahead of the Nifty 50 monthly derivatives expiry. The Sensex declined as much as 223 points or 0.28 per cent to hit an intraday low of 77,146, while the Nifty fell 90 points or 0.37 per cent to 24,128. Investors are clearly re-assessing risk appetite as external variables begin to pile up in an otherwise steady domestic macro environment.

Sectoral Snapshot: Media Ups, Metals Down

The sectoral spread painted a mixed early-session picture, with narrow pockets of buying emerging even as broad-based selling pressure kept the benchmarks under stress. Nifty Media, PSU Bank and Nifty Chemicals emerged as the top gainers, each rising up to 0.6 per cent. On the flip side, Nifty Metal led the laggards with a decline of 0.48 per cent, followed by Nifty Oil & Gas which fell 0.4 per cent. Nifty IT slipped 0.37 per cent, while Nifty Auto and Nifty Realty each declined 0.32 per cent. FMCG, healthcare, consumer durables and pharma shares also traded lower — reinforcing the risk-off tone.
