Key Highlights:

  • Rural booking interval cut to 25 days: Rural LPG consumers can now book refill cylinders every 25 days, down from 45 days, matching the urban booking interval.
  • Reason for the relaxation: Union Minister Suresh Gopi said improved domestic LPG supplies and a significant reduction in refill backlog prompted the decision.
  • Restrictions trace back to Hormuz disruption: The tighter booking intervals were introduced after supply pressure from the Strait of Hormuz blockade linked to the US-Iran conflict.
  • OMCs directed to implement immediately: The Petroleum Ministry has instructed oil marketing companies to apply the revised 25-day interval with immediate effect.
  • Part of a wider easing trend: The move follows June's withdrawal of restrictions on commercial LPG supply, which had earlier been capped at 50% of pre-crisis levels.

New Delhi: The Centre on Monday announced that domestic LPG consumers in rural areas will now be able to book refill cylinders every 25 days, bringing the booking interval at par with that applicable in urban areas.

Union Minister of State for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Tourism Suresh Gopi said the government has relaxed the earlier restriction imposed on LPG refill bookings in view of the improvement in domestic LPG supplies and a significant reduction in the refill backlog.
