Key Highlights:

  • Nifty touched an intraday high of 23,281, up 0.70%, while Sensex rose over 500 points to 74,505.
  • Nifty FMCG, PSU Bank, Cement and Auto were the top-gaining sectors, up as much as 1.45%.
  • Nifty MidSmall IT & Telecom, Healthcare and Pharma indices traded lower.
  • FIIs have been net sellers for five consecutive sessions, with elevated US bond yields weighing on sentiment.
  • Nifty's inability to sustain above 23,515 has invalidated its recent upside attempt, with the 23,260-23,000 zone key for near-term direction.

A Positive Start Led by Defensive and Rate-Sensitive Sectors

Indian stock markets traded higher on Wednesday, with equity benchmarks rising around 0.7 per cent each in early deals, supported by buying interest in FMCG, banking, cement and auto stocks. The gains offered a measure of relief following recent sessions of pressure, even as broader global headwinds continued to linger in the background.

Opening Numbers

The Nifty touched an intraday high of 23,281, up 162 points or 0.70 per cent in morning trade, while the Sensex rose more than 500 points, or 0.67 per cent, to 74,505.

Sectoral Leaders

Sector-wise, Nifty FMCG, Nifty PSU Bank, Nifty Cement and Nifty Auto emerged as the top-performing segments, gaining as much as 1.45 per cent. Nifty Oil & Gas also advanced 0.54 per cent, while Nifty Private Bank added 0.33 per cent, suggesting that the rally, while led by specific sectors, still had reasonably broad participation across banking and consumption-linked segments.
