- Farmer voice: Beneficiary Malti said the assistance helps her buy seeds and materials for cultivation.
In the remote hill district of Chamoli, Uttarakhand, farming is hard work in every sense. Steep slopes, scattered landholdings and high input costs make every season a challenge. For many families here, the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme has become a dependable source of support.
A total of 48,275 farmers in the district are currently benefiting from the Centre’s flagship scheme.
How the Scheme Works
Under PM-KISAN, eligible farming families receive ₹6,000 a year in three equal instalments of ₹2,000 each. The amount is transferred directly to beneficiaries’ bank accounts, allowing farmers to access funds when they need them most, especially during sowing.
