 Key Highlights

  • India's real GDP grew 7.8% in Q1 FY26-27, sharply beating the RBI's 7% projection.
  • Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said nominal GDP grew 10.3% and real GVA grew 8.2%.
  • Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal called the numbers evidence of India's growing economic strength.
  • Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri highlighted global oil price shocks and supply chain disruptions as the backdrop.
  • All three ministers credited the hard work of Indians and NDA government reforms for the strong performance.

India's economic growth story just gained another powerful chapter. On Monday, Union Ministers came together to credit the hard work and resilience of the people of India — along with the economic reforms and policy measures undertaken by the NDA government — for the country's robust economic performance in the first quarter of fiscal 2026-27. With real GDP growth clocking 7.8 per cent for the April-June quarter, well above the Reserve Bank of India's earlier projection of 7 per cent, India has once again reinforced its position as the fastest-growing large economy in the world.

Finance Minister Sitharaman Sets the Tone

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman was quick to underline the strength and resilience of the Indian economy as the Q1 numbers were released. She said India's real GDP is estimated to have grown by 7.8 per cent in Q1 FY2026-27 — a headline figure that reflects both the depth of India's domestic demand and the effectiveness of ongoing policy actions.
