MUMBAI — Veteran Bollywood actor Anupam Kher has pledged monetary support to families devastated by the monsoon floods in Assam, transferring a direct contribution of ₹5 lakh to the Assam Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) via RTGS. The 71-year-old actor’s gesture comes alongside an earnest appeal to citizens across India to join the humanitarian relief and rehabilitation drive as Assam recovers from severe regional inundation.

Direct Financial Relief to Accelerate Rehabilitation

The ₹5 lakh contribution was executed as a direct bank transfer to ensure rapid deployment towards frontline rescue, healthcare distribution, and structural rehabilitation managed by state authorities. In a public message shared on his verified social channels, Kher expressed deep solidarity with affected communities and acknowledged the severe toll on vulnerable populations.

"I am feeling deeply saddened after seeing the pictures of this devastating flood. It is difficult to put into words the scenes we are witnessing on television and social media," Kher stated. "Some people have lost their families, while others have lost their homes. Many children and elderly people are being forced to sit under the open sky."

Beyond human displacement, Kher drew attention to the plight of stranded domestic and wild animals in affected districts—a recurring crisis during Eastern Himalayan monsoon overflows.

Assam has experienced severe, prolonged flooding triggered by heavy monsoonal rain system activity across Upper Assam and neighboring catchment zones in Nagaland. Peak swelling along the Brahmaputra River and its major tributaries—including the Dikhow, Disang, and Dhansiri rivers—inundated hundreds of villages across key districts such as Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat, and Dhemaji.

Official disaster assessment data indicates that over 11 lakh residents have been impacted across multiple revenue circles during peak inundation periods. Tens of thousands of hectares of agricultural cropland were submerged, alongside significant cattle loss and structural damage to rural road links, embankments, and public infrastructure.

District administrative machinery has set up temporary relief camps and medical relief centers, delivering essential rations, clean drinking water, and veterinary support to cut-off areas.

Public Mobilization and Credible Relief Channels

In his call to action, Kher emphasized that community solidarity transcends the monetary value of individual contributions, encouraging citizens, civil society groups, and corporate entities to step forward.

"The value of help is not measured by the amount, but by the emotion and intention behind it," Kher noted. "Those who wish to support financially can contribute whatever amount they can to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund."

State relief accounts remain open for direct banking contributions (IFSC: SBIN0001075) and UPI transfers (cmrfassam@sbi), with official exemptions available under Section 80G of the Income Tax Act. Local district administrations, including the District Commissioner's office in heavily affected areas like Sivasagar, are coordinating the distribution of physical relief items such as dry rations, blankets, and essential medical supplies.
