Govt Raises Rs 3,000 Crore With 6% Stake Sale in Hindustan Copper Via OFS

Key Highlights:

  • Government has raised close to Rs 3,000 crore from the sale of a 6 per cent stake in public sector major Hindustan Copper via a two-day OFS closing Wednesday.
  • Issue was oversubscribed on both days; government exercised its entire greenshoe option after the non-retail portion was subscribed more than three times.
  • Floor price set at Rs 514 per share — a 10 per cent discount to Hindustan Copper's closing price of Rs 574 on the NSE on Monday.
  • Retail portion of the OFS reserved 10 per cent of shares offered; additional 25,000 shares reserved for eligible employees.
  • Company posted robust FY26 results — revenue of Rs 3,077.92 crore (+48.6% YoY) and net profit of Rs 918.54 crore (+97.5%); Q1 FY27 net profit stood at Rs 353 crore on revenue of Rs 936.5 crore.

The Indian government's disinvestment programme just delivered one of its more confident moments of the current fiscal year. On Wednesday, the government successfully concluded a two-day Offer for Sale (OFS) in public sector major Hindustan Copper Ltd, raising close to Rs 3,000 crore through the sale of a 6 per cent stake in the company. The strong investor response — particularly from the non-retail segment — has once again reinforced the market's continuing appetite for high-quality PSU disinvestment opportunities.

DIPAM's Confirmation of Success

The Secretary, Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM), Arunish Chawla, confirmed the successful conclusion of the OFS in a post on X. "The issue was oversubscribed on both days, and the Government decided to exercise its entire greenshoe option. We thank all investors for their participation and reposing their faith in us," he said. That formal endorsement carries meaningful weight — because it signals that the government has fully mobilised the maximum authorised stake sale under the OFS.
