Rapid AI Rollout Raises Job-Loss Concerns in China

New Delhi: The rapid deployment of artificial intelligence across China is generating growing concerns about job losses in an already uncertain labour market, according to a media report.

In Wuhan, taxi drivers lost work when driverless cabs were introduced in the city. Some temporary relief followed after a number of the autonomous vehicles stalled, causing traffic disruptions, and the fleet was withdrawn for investigation, the report by journalist Amy Hawkins in The Guardian noted.

Similar anxieties have spread among white-collar workers after several recent cases in which employees were replaced by AI systems. Some affected workers have received compensation through court rulings, yet many remain worried that the expanding use of the technology will reduce overall employment opportunities.
